Currently the IA-1 DMAT is recruiting Communications
Officers, Logistics Officers, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacist,
Pharmacy Technicians, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Respiratory
Therapist, and Safety Officers.
Expectations of team members include but are not
limited to the following.
 | Members will participate in team meetings which
are held monthly during the fall, winter, and spring. Participation may
be in person, teleconference, and or web conference. |
 | Members are expected to complete NDMS
Predeployment and Core on-line team training with in six months of hire.

 | Members are expected to participate in person to
at least one Field Training Exercise (FTX) per year. |
 | Members are expected to receive required
immunizations in a timely manner. |
Members are expected to
deploy during time of disaster for up to 14 days if necessary in an austere
environment.
What is a Disaster
Medical Assistance Team (DMAT)?
A Disaster
Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) is a group of medical and support personnel
designed to provide emergency medical care during a disaster or other
unusual event.
DMATs deploy to
disaster sites with adequate supplies and equipment to support themselves
for a period of 72 hours while providing medical care at a fixed or
temporary medical site. They may provide primary health care and/or augment
overloaded local health care staff. DMATs are designed to be a
rapid-response element to supplement local medical care until other Federal
or contract resources can be mobilized, or the situation resolved.
Each DMAT
deployable unit consists of approximately 35 individuals; however, teams may
consist of more than three times this number to provide some redundancy for
each job role. This insures that an adequate number of personnel are
available at the time of deployment. The team is composed of medical
professionals and support staff organized, trained, and prepared to activate
as a unit.
DMATs are categorized into one of four possible types:
Type I:
Fully Operational Team –
-
DMATs that have 105 or more deployable team members
-
12 or more physicians,
-
3 or more in the following health care positions:
(a) Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
(b) Registered Nurse
(c) Pharmacist
(d) Paramedic

DMAT equipment cache properly managed, stored, and
inventoried per NDMS requirements
-
Demonstrated ability to provide the Operations Support
Center with a properly configured personnel roster within 4 hours of
alert/activation notice
-
Demonstrated ability to pack cache and have personnel at
the team's duty station within 6 hours of activation
-
Team has deployed with a 35-person team, complete
supply, and equipment cache including pharmaceuticals to a natural
disaster with less than intact infrastructure
-
Participated in at least 2 NDMS approved field exercises
(one observed by NDMS staff)
-
Pre-arrangement for obtaining vehicles, both primary and
alternate
-
100% rating on NDMS readiness tests in the previous
12-month period
-
To maintain this operational level, all team members
must obtain 90% completion of the NDMS basic core training plus 50% of
the NDMS advanced training by August 2005

Must provide representation on all NDMS command,
Administrative, and Training officer conference calls. All command staff
to attend annual NDMS Conference

Completed all NDMS readiness assessment (both self and
verified) with a score of 85% or greater.
Type II: Operational Team –
-
DMATs that have 90 or more deployable team members
-
9 or more physicians,
-
3 or more in the following health care positions:

(a) Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
(b) Registered Nurse
(c) Pharmacist
(d) Paramedic |
DMAT equipment cache properly managed, stored, and
inventoried per NDMS requirements
Demonstrated ability to provide the Operations Support

alert/activation notice
Demonstrated ability to pack cache and have personnel at
the team's duty station within 12 hours of activation
Completed all NDMS readiness assessment (both self and
verified) with a score of 75%
Participated in at least 2 NDMS approved field exercises
(one observed by NDMS staff)
Pre-arrangement for obtaining vehicles, both primary and
alternate score of 75% on NDMS readiness tests in the last 12-months
Must provide representation on all NDMS command,
Administrative, and Training officer conference calls. All command staff
to attend annual NDMS Conference to maintain this operational level, all
team members must obtain 80% completion of the NDMS basic core training
plus 25% of the NDMS advanced training by August 2005
Type III:
Augmentation/Local Team – a DMAT
team that may be used to supplement other deployed teams or a team that may
be deployed by NDMS within its home state to assist the Type I deployed
team.

DMATs that have 50 or more deployable team members

6 or more physicians,

2 or more in the following health care positions:
(a) Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
(b) Registered Nurse
(c) Pharmacist
(d) Paramedic

DMAT equipment cache in place (full or limited). Cache
to be maintained, inventoried, and stored within NDMS guidelines
-
Ability to provide 75% of the properly configured
personnel roster within 12 hours of alert/activation
-
Demonstrated ability to pack cache and have personnel at
the team's duty station within 24 hours of activation
-
Completed all NDMS readiness assessment (both self and
verified) with a score of 50% or greater
-
Participated in at least 1 NDMS approved field exercise
-
Passed one of the NDMS readiness tests within the
previous 12-months with a score of 75%
-
Must provide representation on all NDMS command,
Administrative, and Training officer conference calls. All command staff
to attend annual NDMS Conference to maintain this operational level, all
team members must obtain 50% completion of the NDMS basic core training
plus 25% of the NDMS advanced training by August 2005.
Type IV:
Developmental Team - a DMAT which
may be used to supplement other teams as necessary during deployments to
allow members a chance to obtain experience, training, and skills that will
assist them in meeting the requirements necessary to upgrade the team
status.
